Jorstad’s PHYS 163 Video Lectures |
First 16 vids in the playlist were recorded without students. Be extra cautious watching these; it is easier to miss mistakes without students in the classroom.. Always check the video comments for typo comments & video corrections. Ask me in office hours if something seems messed up in the video... |

Openstax book |

We start at Unit 2, Chapter 5 (shortcut to 5.1) If you reach a “Check your Understanding” while reading you can click on the number to see the answer. To get back to the reading, click on the number next to the answer.
Note: all concept questions (CQ’s) are solved in openstax. Only odd problems (P’s) are solved in openstax.
To find the CQ’s and P’s: go to Chapter Review and SCROLL DOWN (shortcut to Ch5 review).
To get answers: click on the number next to any given problem. To get back to the problems, click on the number next to the answer. Alternatively, open the answers in a separate tab and scroll around. |

Not Available |
Complete 1 chapter per week unless otherwise specified. Ch 21 CQ: 1-3, 5, 8-10 P: 2, 17, 22, 35, 42, 51, 62, 70, 73
Ch 22 CQ: 1-3, 5-6, 9-11, 13-14 P: 7-9, 14, 19, 22, 24, 26-27, 29-33, 37-38, 41, 48, 54, 65
Ch23 CQ:2, 3, 5, 6, 8-11 P: 26, 27, 30, 33, 35, 39, 43, 81 bolded problems are slabs. Challenge: For some sick reason I really love 73 but unless you are really into Gauss’s law for fun I wouldn’t waste your time.
Ch 24 CQ All are good, do as many as you can stand P: 15, 16, 20, 23, 25, 26, 31, 33, 44, 47, 51, 59, 72, 80, 95 One challenge is problem 40. If you want to do this, try problem 38 first. Problem 100 is pretty doable and fun if you feel like it, too.
Ch 25 CQ: All of them, seriously, I love these kinds of Q’s on next exam and final P: 14, 15 or 56, 19, 21-22, 27-28, 41, 44, 48-49, 55, 69, 72 Challenge 26
Ch 26 CQ: 1, 3, 5, 8, 11 P: 9, 11, 14-16, 25, 27, 35, 40, 44, 49, 51, 67, 68, 71 I like my resistance vs temp Q in the workbook as well. Electrical Engineers add in CQ 6, 9, Problem 4, 8, 80? Challenge: 36 a bit confusing, about lightning hitting a person in a lake, 54
Ch27 Again, do ALL CQ’s in this chapter Do most of the following; if tired at least try setting up about 90% of them. I love all of them but I suspect at some point you’ll know if you need more practice or should skip a problem or two. Problems:10, 35, 26, 39-40, 45, 48, 60 Do at least 5 of these: 63-66, 75, 80 Do at least 4 of these: 85-88, 90 Do at least 2 of these: 22, 24-25, 89 Optional: if you are into real life problems try: 27, 51, 54, 62, 83, 85 “Fun” Challenge?: 74
Ch 28 CQ: 1-2, 4-8, 10-12 Do at least two from each grouping P: 6, 9, 15, 30, 39, 44, 46, 51, 72, 76 Challenge: 47, 87 both of these are really interesting and highly recommended
Ch 29 CQ: All are good except 10 P: 13-16, 21, 24-25, 41, 47, 48, 54-55, 69, 73, 81-82, 85-87 Rail Gun: 88...not as hard as it first appears Challenge: 30-34...everyone should try at least one
Ch 30 All CQ’s are good. P: 1, 3, 5, 10, 11, 18, 21, 23, 28, choose 2 of 33-35, choose 2 of 53-55, 57-58, 79, 81, 84, 95, 100 Feel free to skip a couple once you realize you are good at that type. In circuits class you will use 47-49 and maybe 77..I do not test on these
Ch 31 All CQ’s good. 10 & 13 are not my preferred style; I prefer ones that look like scope screen. P: 1-3, choose 3 of 17-23, choose 1 of 24-27, choose 3 of 28-34, 35-36, 38, choose 2 of 39-42 , 44, 47-48, 58, 60-61, 67, 70, 72 Feel free to skip some once you realize you are good at that problem type. Electrical’s: 51, 77
Ch 32 CQ: 2, 3, 5, 6, 8-12 P: 6-10, 34, 37, 61, 69
Ch 33 CQ: 1, 4 P: 1-2, 4-6, 8, 11, 12, 13-16, 19, 23, 24, 26, 28, 30 Challenge: 31 |
